Hellcats over the Philippine deep

Certains livres ne sont que des livres ! "Hellcats over the Philippine Deep" n'est pas un livre comme les autres ; il représente pour moi le souvenir d'un grand moment d'émotion. En effectuant des recherches en juillet 2009 sur le Grumman Wildcat et sur son engagement dans les Philippines, je suis remonté par l'intermédiaire d'un spécialiste américain du USS Hornet jusqu'à deux pilotes vétérans de Wildcat ! Le premier, le Commander Willis "Bill" Hardy m'a fourni de nombreuses et précieuses information par courriel.
Some books are just books ! "Hellcats over the Philippine Deep" is not a book like the others ; it reminds me a great moment of emotion. Looking for information in July 2009 on the Grumman Wildcat and its commitment in the Philippines, I was given by an American specialist of USS Hornet tthe name of two Wildcats veterans pilots ! The first one, Commander Willis “Bill” Hardy provided me many and invaluable information by email.

Quant au second, le Commander John F. Smith ("Jack"), j'ai tout simplement eu l'immense privilège et le grand honneur de l'appeler chez lui, dans l'Iowa, pendant 15 minutes. Avant de raccrocher, il m'informa qu'il avait écrit un livre souvenir sur sa guerre dans les Philippines. Je m'empressait donc de lui en demander le prix. Il me répondit 5 $ plus les frais d'envoi.
As for the second one, Commander John F. Smith ("Jack"), I simply had the privilege and great honor to call him at home, in Iowa, during 15 minutes. Before hanging up, he informed me that he had written a memory book on dealing with his war in Philippines. I then asked him the price of his book. He answered me 5 $ plus the shipping costs.

Ni une ni deux, je glissais 10 $ dans une enveloppe (j'ai toujours sur moi des dollars - vieux réflexes de globe trotter) que j'expédiais dès le lendemain. Quelques temps plus tard est arrivé par la poste le livre "Hellcats over the Philippine Deep" avec dédicace en première page, un DVD avec l'interview de vétérans dont le Commander Smith et ... mes 10 $ ! Un grand moment d'émotion pour moi que je n'oublierai jamais !
I immediately put 10 $ in an envelope (I always have dollars with me - probably a globe trotter reflex) which I sent the following day. A few times later arrived by post the book “Hellcats over the Philippine Deep” with a special dedication on first page, a DVD with the interview of veterans including Commander Smith and… my 10 $ ! A great moment of emotion for me that I'll never forget !
