Spitfire - BA 705 Tours

Ayant visité mon site passion-aviation, et en particulier la rubrique consacrée à Pierre Clostermann, Gérard Gapin me contacta en septembre 2020 et nous eûmes l'occasion d'échanger sur notre passion commune et nos nombreux points communs, comme la lecture du Grand Cirque. Gérard Gapin effectua son service militaire à la Base Aérienne 705 de Tours, qui, à l'époque, exposait à son entrée le superbe Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk XVIe codé GW-B (matricule TB597). Il me fit parvenir une photo de l'avion, datant de 1972, ainsi que la photo qui figurait au verso d'un carton d'invitation du commandant de la base pour un bal. A noter que Gérard Gapin, vaguemestre à l'époque, pris cette photo en allant chercher des documents météo à l'aide d'un Kodak Instamatic 100.
When visiting my website "passion-aviation", and especially the section dedicated to Pierre Clostermann, Gérard Gapin contacted me in September 2020 and we had the opportunity to discuss about our passion and we discovered many things in common, such as reading "Le Grand Cirque". Gérard Gapin did his military service at Air Base 705 in Tours, which at that time displayed the superb Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk XVIe coded GW-B (registration number TB597) at its entrance. He sent me a photo of the aircraft, dated 1972, as well as the photo that appeared on the back of an invitation card for a ball, sent by the commander of the base. It should be noted that Gérard Gapin, postmaster at the time, used a Kodak Instamatic 100 to take this photo.
